It is important to stay healthy to face the long shifts and demanding work for the nurse. When I was practicing my CNA class, I got some great tips from the nurses there. No matter what kind of job you are doing, the first thing you have to stay healthy is prioritize your sleep. Ensure you get 7-8 hours of sleep to help your body recover and maintain a consistent sleep schedule, even on your days off. Always pack some healthy snacks like nuts, fruits, and yogurt to keep your energy levels stable. At the same time, staying hydrated is the key. Carry a big bottle of water and drink at least 8 cups of water throughout your shift. Avoiding too much caffeine because it can dehydrate you and disrupt your sleep.

Keep in mind that exercise will help to reduce stress. 10-15 minute workouts during breaks or before/after shifts will be good. She likes to take the stairs to add more steps to your day.  Consider mindfulness practices like meditation or yoga to help relax. Also practice deep breathing exercises to manage stress during your shift.

Besides physical health care, social support and mental health is also important. Find your peers to talk about work-related stress. Do not hesitate to seek professional help if you feel overwhelmed.

These tips are great for me to manage my health and fitness while I am doing long hours in my CNA clinical practice. Also getting to know how to balance a busy nursing career in my near future!
